Known as the City of the Jacarandas because of all the purple-flowering jaracondas that line its streets at certain times of the year, Pretoria, or Tshwane as it is also called, is a charming, peaceful colonial-style town, with a long and often complex, but always fascinating history, which has shaped its current elegant form.
