You will take a pleasant three-hour cruise on the Olde Belize River that will take you several miles. It's not uncommon to encounter troops of black howler monkeys relaxing in the jungle by the river, and you may even spot elusive crocodiles basking in the warm sunlight. You can also see iguanas, several varieties of birds and a variety of flora.
At Burrell Boom, a picturesque settlement by the river, you will be served a tasty local lunch with refreshments. After lunch, your tour bus and guide will accompany you to the Mayan ruins of Altun Ha (Mayan for "Rock Stone Water"). Here you will learn the captivating history of this site where the famous "Kinich Ahau" jade was discovered by Dr. David Pendergast of the Royal Ontario Museum.
Altun Ha was once a major trading center linking the Maya on the Caribbean coast with the mainland Maya of Central America. It is also well known for its wide variety of birds.
After your visit to Altun Ha, you will board the bus to return to Belize City.
