All the wealth of Latin America in Costa Rica
Monkeys, felines, butterflies, reptiles, birds… Nestled between Nicaragua and Panama, Costa Rica offers travelers one of the most beautiful biodiversity in the world. At the time of nature trips, here is a selection among the many unmissable places in Costa Rica.
1. Visit the pre-Columbian gold museum
Lovers of Latin American history, especially those interested in the pre-Columbian era, will go to San José to visit the Museo del oro pre-Columbino, considered one of the most important. More than 1600 pre-Columbian objects dating back to the year 500 constitute a sought-after collection of gold antiques (earrings, amulets, erotic statuettes, etc.).
2. Approach the Poas or Arenal volcanoes
Costa Rica is located in a particularly volcanic area, with seven active volcanoes and 60 dormant or extinct specimens. North of the capital San José, the Poas National Park is one of the most visited for its volcano of the same name, which arouses curiosity through its crater, refuge of a lake with acid fumes.
Hiking trails lead enthusiasts to the volcano at an altitude of 2708 meters, with its breathtaking turquoise lake. The other volcanic attraction is called Arenal, even further north. Trails also allow you to discover the youngest volcano in Costa Rica, without being able to reach the crater, for safety reasons.
3. Zipline down in Monteverde
Costa Rica is rich in mountainous relief. Many tropical forests occupy the country and are the refuge of one of the best preserved biodiversity in the world. In the Monteverde region, travelers mingle with the trees on suspension bridges that overlook a sculpted landscape 1400 meters above sea level in the Cordillera de Tilaran.
To stroll at the level of the treetops and evolve on the canopy, rather atypical means of locomotion have been put in place, since visitors can go from one slope to another using a zip line.
4. Go white water rafting
It is rafting paradise. Crossed by multiple rivers, Costa Rica offers a sizeable playground for thrill seekers in white water. Several options allow you to rub shoulders with different falls, from the Pacuare river to Reventazon via the Sarapiqui.
5. Discover the oxcarts of the town of Sarchi
More than a trendy place, it is an address not to be missed, as it embodies Costa Rican culture. About fifty kilometers from the capital San José, the small town of Sarchi is home to a craft center that cultivates the tradition of oxcarts. Here, we can attend the manufacture of these cars, painted by hand, with shimmering colors. More than 200 workshops open their doors. Originally, these carts were used to transport coffee in the XNUMXth century.
