Explore one of the most important wine-producing regions in Spain on this full-day small-group tour from Barcelona. Meet your guide in central Barcelona and relax in a comfortable minivan as you travel to the Catalan region of Penedés. In Catalonia, vines have been growing for more than 2 years, and winegrowers produce around 000 million bottles of wine per year. During your visit, your local guide will teach you about the industry and interesting facts about winemaking in Spain.
After about an hour's drive, you'll arrive at your first stop, a local cava maker. Visit the vineyard with a member of staff and learn the process of making cava. Visit the deep underground cellar where the estate's first bottle of cava was produced over 150 years ago!
Admire the modernist industrial architecture of the estate and listen to explanations of the technological innovations that are combined with ancient traditions to produce the wonderful sparkling wine. At the end of your visit, taste some of the estate's most emblematic varieties.
Next, head to a smaller homestead, where each worker is tied to the family in some way. This winery has kept the cava-making process alive and limits the use of machinery, creating a beautifully aged cava, considered one of the best in Spain. You will have the chance to taste a sample of this delicate cava.
You will then have a 1,5 hour break for lunch (own expense) in a local village, where your guide will recommend restaurants based on your preferences.
After lunch, sit in your minivan for the journey to an organic vineyard specializing in red and white wines, particularly Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Garnatxa (more commonly known as “Grenache”), and Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy a guided tour of the estate, then relax at the bar while tasting some of these magnificent wines.
Then, return to Barcelona, enjoying views of the vineyards from the comfort of your minivan.
