Day 1: Broome to Fitzroy Crossing (L, D)
In the morning set off on your journey north at Willare Bridge, we cross the mighty Fitzroy River, before arriving at Fitzroy Crossing. On the trip to Geikie Gorge, enjoy a picnic lunch before joining the National Park Ranger for an exciting cruise through the Geikie Gorge on the Fitzroy River, the place of geological marine fossils, crocodiles, exotic birds and other native animals.
In Geikie Gorge, you can also opt for more than 2 hours of the Darngku Heritage Cruise organized by local Native Cultural Bunuba guides which offer a fascinating insight into native culture, Dreamtime stories, hiders in the bushes, animal stalking, traditional plant use and cultural practices (a touring upgrade is available at additional cost). From there it was only a short drive to the Fitzroy River Lodge for our overnight stay. Enjoy a campfire BBQ dinner tonight.
A barbecue dinner, a continental breakfast and an overnight stay: Fitzroy River Lodge.
Day 2: Fitzroy Crossing to Broome (B, L)
After breakfast, this adventure will take you along the famous "Gibb River Road", once used as a main cattle road in the region, stop at Tunnel Creek, an incredible flooded tunnel shaped like a tube of 750 meters long. Take a thrilling ride through the tunnel as you wade through knee-to-thigh water and hear the story of the Jandamarra.
After a short drive, stop at Windjana Gorge, considered one of the world's classic geology features and a great spotting spot for freshwater crocodiles. Enjoy a picnic lunch before the return journey to Broome, passing through the historic town of Derby, home to Australia's highest tides. Stop for afternoon tea at one of Kimberley's most famous landmarks, the Prison Boab Tree, once used to house convicts. Here you can also see the Myalls Bore, a 120m long trough built in the early 1900s used to quench up to 1.000 head of cattle at a time, before returning to Broome at around 19:00pm.
