Another way of seeing New York with Will Ellis
New York in an unusual version
We are far from the usual images of New York, the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Central Park or the Brooklyn Bridge. For three years, photographer Will Ellis searched for abandoned places, from Manhattan to Brooklyn to the outer boroughs. The result: 150 color photographs of New York's most beautiful and mysterious abandoned spaces.
Urbex, the urban exploration under Will Ellis
Will Ellis considers himself an urban explorer - we speak of Urbex for this type of photography - different who sometimes encountered squatters, “ghosts” as in the Hossac Tunnel when his shutter no longer worked and his camera photographed all by itself. .
He discovered tragic places armed with his camera and a mask to protect himself from asbestos or terrible odors. We admire abandoned railroads, a theater that will never welcome spectators again, abandoned factories where nature reclaims its rights. We discover mounds of pigeon droppings in a former psychiatric hospital in Queens, a ruined bridge in Sunset Park, a dormitory on the verge of collapse on Staten Island or even a military post or a school… All these incredible spaces of New York are delivered to posterity thanks to the talent of Will Ellis.
