In Chile, the Calbuco volcano woke up
In 2010, who knew the name of Eyjafjallajökull? But the Icelandic volcano rose to fame after a large-scale eruption and the birth of an ash cloud that crippled air traffic. In 2015, history repeats itself. Not in Iceland, but in Chile.
This time, it's the Calbuco volcano, dormant since 1972, which is doing its own thing. Culminating at around 2000 meters, this Chilean volcano is located on the outskirts of the towns of Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas, with a population of around 250 inhabitants.
