Our morning journey takes us through historic Guildford and Swan Valley, passing Perth Pearce Air Force Base in the developing orange district of Bindoon to reach fascinating New Norcia. First established in 1846 as a mission in the Aboriginal lands, New Norcia is home to Australia's Benedictine Abbey. A local guide escorts our journey through the town explaining the intriguing history and culture of the community before visiting the museum housing local artefacts and priceless pieces, most of which are precious gifts to the monastery from popes and kings from Spain. We also visit a local produce shop for the chance to purchase Benedictine Community goods, such as Benedictine olive oil, fruit wine, delicious New Norcia nut cakes and fresh breads.
Moving forward we arrive at the lobster fishing village of Cervantes for lunch. These highly prized "Rock Lobsters" are caught by local fishermen before being exported to Japan.
Then travel to Nambung National Park, home of the mystical Pinnacles Desert. Here, your driver-guide takes you on a slow-paced walk through parts of this fascinating landscape covering some 404 hectares. Make sure you're wearing comfortable shoes, a hat, and plenty of camera film. Before making our return trip to Perth, you will visit a shop offering a range of dried wildflowers. Spring wildflower stops are available August through December only.
