As the movie Rocky celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year, experts at Lonely Planet have declared 2016 to be the year of Philadelphia, home of the famous film saga.
Philadelphia, the first American city to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
In its list of the 10 best American destinations of the year, the famous travel guide gives the first place to the main metropolis of Pennsylvania. But this is not the first distinction the city has received in recent months.
In 2015, Philadelphia became the first American city to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with Paris, Rome, Cairo and Kyoto. This distinction, announced last November, underlines the importance of the city which houses Independence Hall, where the country's Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776.
The city was also talked about last fall because it welcomed Pope Francis during his tour of the Americas.

This year 2016 will also be marked by the National Convention of Democrats, organized in July in Philly.
