Street artists repaint more than 200 houses in Mexico
In Mexico, street artists have worked hand in hand to give new soul to the Barrio de Palmitas neighborhood, a banal favela in the Pachuca district that has become a joyfully colorful place to live.
A colorful social project
The Mexican government asked the group of street artists Germen Crew to completely repaint the facades of 209 houses in a favela that looked very sad. The goal was not only to beautify the city but also and above all to reduce crime.
This large-scale artistic program allowed these young people from the neighborhood to express their creativity on more than 20 square meters of walls. The project offered 000 families and 452 inhabitants the opportunity to get involved in a common work. Jobs were thus created and, thanks to teamwork, violence was completely eradicated. Palmitas is definitely smiling again, the government has largely succeeded in achieving its goal.
A titanic work of art
The result is absolutely magnificent and truly stunning. The whole forms a huge fresco revealing the wonderful colors of the rainbow. From a distance, the hill on which the favela is installed looks like a large colorful painting.
Yellow rubs shoulders with turquoise and orange on one wall, while the neighboring house sports fuchsia, purple or even green and pink. Locals climb the winding stairs in the middle of this artist's canvas that has the gift of bringing good humor to anyone who ventures into the Barrio de Palmitas neighborhood.
The alleys no longer have anything to do with the heap of concrete that the favela previously formed. They have turned into a place where it is good to stroll without fear of witnessing the violence of gangs of young people in every corner. All that remains is to hope that this stroke of paint does not only serve to save appearances ...
