Immerse yourself in history, adventure, rainforest and remote countryside in this wonderful region. You travel north along Captain Cook's Highway, one of Australia's most scenic coastal drives, to World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park, crossing the mighty Daintree River by cable ferry.
Travel through this spectacular landscape which contains the largest number of rare and endangered plant and animal species in the world. Your knowledgeable guide will enlighten your journey with intrigue and history as you continue by 4×4 to the Bloomfield Trail. It will take you through some of the most incredible scenery in the country as you cross rivers and climb mountain ranges.
Stop for lunch at the famous Lion's Den Hotel, one of the oldest bistros in Queensland's Northern Bush, operating since 1875. Continue to the unique geological oddity of Black Mountain, shrouded in mystery and ancient Aboriginal legend, before to arrive in Cooktown. Enjoy the splendid panoramic views of the grassy hillside of the Coral Sea, Cooktown and the Endeavor River.
You'll have an hour of free time to stroll through historic Cooktown or perhaps visit the James Cook Museum. (Entrance to the museum is not included).
Departing from Cooktown via the Mulligan Inner Highway, you travel through a varied landscape of cattle stations and the gold-bearing Palmer River region. After an evening meal break (Additional expense to be paid direct) at Hotel Mont Molloy, a typical North Queensland bistro serving home cooked meals, you will return to Cairns around 21pm.
You also have the option to return from Cooktown to Cairns and take in the spectacular Daintree coastal scenery, World Heritage Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef. If selected, your arrangements will end at Cairns Airport. Cairns airport transfers are not included and you will need to make your own way to your accommodation.
