Spend two days exploring the best of Cairns. Enjoy a full day to explore the tropical village of Kuranda, and on your second day, discover why the Great Barrier Reef is considered one of the natural wonders of the world. This two-day package, including a Great Barrier Reef cruise and scenic helicopter ride, is ideal for exploring the reef and rainforest, with plenty of time to fully appreciate the North tropical Australia.
Day 1 – Kuranda Scenic Train with optional visit to Rainforestation Park
Enjoy a scenic and historic train journey through Barron Gorge past spectacular waterfalls to rainforest village Kuranda. Spend the day exploring this unique village, discovering its markets, quirky crafts and all that Kuranda has to offer.
You'll return to Cairns aboard the Skyrail, the Rainforest Cableway, and glide above the treetops of the magnificent World Heritage-listed rainforest, suspended in the air. You will be able to take advantage of stops on the route and take wooden passages through the tropical forest during a commented discovery. Return transfer to your original departure point is included.
Rainforestation Upgrade: For an even more thrilling rainforest experience, opt for a tour of Rainforestation Nature Park. Enjoy a 45-minute walk through the rainforest in a World War II amphibious vehicle as your guide shows you ferns, orchids, strangler figs and stinging trees, and birds such as the blue-backed kingfisher and a myriad of other fascinating animals and reptiles. Enjoy a buffet lunch and the Dreamtime Walk where you learn about Aboriginal culture through traditional corroboree and the wielding of the boomerang and spear. See Australian animals such as wombats, dingoes and crocodiles, hand-feed kangaroos or have your photo taken with a koala in your arms.
Day 2 Cruise to the Great Barrier Reef and 30-minute scenic helicopter ride
Your excursion will begin with a cruise aboard the Osprey V to the Great Barrier Reef where you will spend five hours exploring two fabulous coral destinations. Enjoy a tropical barbecue lunch with fish, shrimp, steak and salads. Snorkeling and semi-submersible coral viewing trips are also included on this coral adventure, with up to three optional dives for beginners or experienced divers. The day ends with a breathtaking 30-minute helicopter ride over five sets and coral reefs for the return to Cairns and the spectacular conclusion to this two-day adventure.
Note: The restoration of the Osprey is scheduled for May 24 to June 6, 2010, during which time it will therefore not be in service. Scuba diving lessons and reef trips will resume June 7, 2010.
