Created in 1987, MACBA is Barcelona's contemporary art museum. The building was built by the American architect Richard Meier.
The building surprises with its dazzling whiteness and the alternation of straight lines and curves in the architecture.
Meier wanted to play with light. This penetrates abundantly into the inner courtyard and into all the exhibition and performance halls.
The interior of the MACBA is fully illuminated by daylight. The museum is located in Barri Xinés, or Chinatown.
A few years ago still a little marginal, the Barrio Chino is now pleasant and home to large buildings, such as the MACBA or the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona.
The ground floor traces the evolution of modern art since 1950, highlighting the conflicts and main trends that develop from that time.
The first floor is more centered on Catalonia and presents the reception of the different currents in the region.
On the second floor you can attend the projection of Spiritual Voices. From the Diaries of War (1995) by Alexander Sokurov.
You have to take the time to browse this museum and to hang on or not, with the works.
The setting is in any case very pleasant and a café on the terrace in the sun with a view of the MACBA is not lacking in charm. There's also a library, book and art shop, and don't forget to check out MACBA's program of exhibitions and events.
