1st day: Athens tour and half-day excursion to Cape Sounion
After pickup from your Athens hotel in the morning, set off for a ride aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned coach. Your guide will show you the historical and modern sites of the city, including central Omonia Square and Constitution Square. Pass by the Panathenaic Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, and visit the Acropolis, the jewel of the city.
Go to the famous Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike and the magnificent Portico of the Caryatids, and discover the fascinating exhibits of the Acropolis Museum. Afterwards, you can relax and enjoy lunch (own expense) before embarking on a journey to Cape Sounion in the afternoon, passing the beautiful beaches of the Saronic Gulf.
You will arrive at the amazing Temple of Poseidon and admire the bright white monument set on a rocky cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. Discover the wonders and history of this incredible site, built in 44 BC. You will then return to your pre-booked Athens hotel for the night.
Day 2: Day trip to Mycenae and Epidaurus
Take a scenic drive along a coastal road along the Saronic Gulf and arrive at the ancient city of Mycenae, home to the kingdom of Agamemnon, an important figure in Greek mythology. Visit his tomb, the Palace and the Lioness Gate.
After lunch at a local restaurant, continue your journey and stop in the picturesque town of Nafplio before setting sail for Epidaurus, reputed to be the birthplace of Asklepios, son of Apollo. One of the most celebrated centers of healing in the classical world, Epidaurus is home to the Sanctuary of Asklepios, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the ancient amphitheater of Epidaurus, one of the finest classical Greek buildings. preserved, still used due to its incredible acoustics. You will have the opportunity to visit these sites and more during your tour.
