Breathtaking Australian landscapes
At the start of 2016, the Kangaroo Country tourism organization is launching a vast campaign to attract even more international tourists to Australia. If the Uluru rock or the Great Barrier Reef are already unmissable during a vacation, other landscapes are just as worth a detour.
Blue Mountains
Two hours by train from Sydney, the Blue Mountains offer a breathtaking landscape that takes its name from the eucalyptus fumes releasing a blue glow. The site is easily discovered aboard cable cars and a bus that take curious people both at altitude and lower, where they rush into a humid forest. Tourists will not fail to photograph the “three sisters”, three rocks lying next to each other. An Aboriginal legend made them the stars of the Blue Mountains.
Hillier Lake
Australia also offers mysteries to tourists like this lake located on Middle Island, in the Archipelago of Research, in the state of Western Australia (to the south). The waters of this pond are very highly concentrated in salt, giving it a candy pink color. About 600 meters long, Lake Hilier has yet to fully explode; its secret is completely veiled and scientists are trying to understand the reasons for such an intense concentration of salt.
Daintree Forest
On the Queensland coast, to the far north, after the big city of Cairns, backpackers will dive into a tropical forest, the largest in Australia. The region is a concentration of biodiversity - one of the most important on Earth - which will amaze lovers of nature, and especially wildlife. The Daintree Rainforest, for example, is home to the famous tropical green frog, which is now protected. 90% of Australian butterfly and bat species live there.
The Pinnacles Desert
Here is another curious site to discover. Head to Nambung National Park, north of Perth, in the state of Western Australia. This yellow sand desert stands out from the others in the country with its thousands of limestone rock formations scattered throughout the site. These natural sculptures come in different sizes and can sometimes reach four meters high.
Kings Canyon
The United States has its grand canyon. Australia too. The Northern Territory should not only attract tourists to the famous Uluru (Ayers Rock). Some 300 km from the Aboriginal Rock, visitors will be dizzy in Watarrka National Park, where the George Hill Range features rugged rock formations, plunging into the valley. It is better to be attentive to the shape of each one to distinguish the profile of animals which inspired many aboriginal legends. A 6 km circuit provides access to the top of the cliffs. The hike leads further down to the valley; a water hole where prehistoric plants still exist.
