Departing from your hotel in Buenos Aires, you'll board the ferry and enjoy a scenic XNUMX-hour sightseeing cruise through the Rio de la Plata en route to Montevideo. Upon arrival at the port, you will have spectacular views of the city and the coastal areas of Uruguay. Montevideo is one of the only continental capitals with a ring of beaches integrated into its urban landscape.
Montevideo is a true cultural capital in South America and home to many top-notch singers and musicians. Your guided tour includes visiting famous sites in the old and new sectors as well as a stop at one of the main theatres. The recently restored Solis was one of the first theaters in South America and a must-see when visiting Montevideo.
Travel to Plaza Independencia, one of Montevideo's main squares and the separation of old and new sectors. The square boasts a famous marble statue of General José Gervasio Artigas, a well of South American knowledge and a military leader and national hero. You will also be able to take photos of the tallest building in Uruguay, the Palacio Salvo.
Also on the program, a visit to the famous Matriz Iglesia. Built in 1804, the Matriz Church (or Metropolitan Cathedral) is Montevideo's oldest public structure and boasts the remains of some of Uruguay's most notable politicians and religious leaders.
In the old part of the city you will find a large number of cultural centers and museums which display paintings and photography through the ages. Street festivals are very common in Montevideo so don't be surprised if you stop to admire the Candombe or Carnival. While the carnival is only available in February, the famous Candombe takes place all year round.
