End of the line: everyone's abandoned trains in Bolivia
Have you ever heard of the elephant cemeteries found in Africa and Asia? Like these great mastodons, there is a train cemetery in Bolivia, sublimated by Chris Staring through magnificent photos.
Uyuni, a city of multiple contrasts
In Bolivia, the city of Uyuni, located in the southwest of the country, is known to tourists from all over the world. Culminating at an altitude of 3670m, Uyuni is indeed located near the largest salt desert in the world. But it is also the largest crossroads of railways in Bolivia, from which four lines depart.
In the 19th century the town was home to a railcar factory. But over time, steam locomotives and wagons were abandoned in its suburbs. Today, iron behemoths take pride of place here and there, like a set from a Mad Max movie.
A cemetery like no other
Chris Staring is currently based in Melbourne, Australia. Traveler, designer and above all a talented photographer, he was able to highlight this iconoclastic cemetery of trains by photographing them in a subtle play of lights. The cars are stripped, the locomotives are tagged but these forgotten trains would be perfect in a movie.
End of the Line is the last series of photos presented by Chris Staring: the story of an abandoned cemetery near a town with a fantastical atmosphere. Simply superb!
